In the begining when i heard about adobe Air. i didnt give it a thought for one adobe was not a company renown for its for support for the Linux desktop. the fact that products like photoshop dreamweaver and a host of their top applications don’t run natively on Linux is a cliche. even the few products that have been ported are riddled with bugs, bugs you don’t get on their windows equivalent. However it seems attitude is changing and Adobe is starting to take Linux user more seriously. adobe flash player (very notorious been Firefox’s kryptonite on Linux and a general PITA) has improved alot with version 10x which was released the same day the windows version was released (doesn’t happen like this before most times we are always the last to receive updates) as if that was not enough adobe released 64bit version of its flash player on the Linux platform only. Saturday, January 17th, 2009Resetting Keyring in Intrepid
Saturday, January 10th, 2009One of the things i find very annoying on ibex is the gnome keyring. It is suppose to provide a secured means for applications to store password. But as always with security stuff it can get very annoying especially if you use a WPA secured wireless and you authenticate your login from a finger print reader. I get this keyring prompt every time i start my system. it can be very annoying i hate typing password. and although i use my finger print for my login authentication. Having to type the keyring pass code every time i login defeat the purpose. i tried searching but it seems there is no way to disable the keyring. This surely is a bug (used to exist in hardy heron but was fixed by updates). my only solution was to reset the keyring password and put in a low level passwd. something i can easily type. and remember. sure there are security implications for this so i wont advise you do this on an enterprise machine. to reset the gnome keyring you have to delete this file login.keyring found in this hidden directory .gnome/keyrings/ (more…)
Fix Xubuntu Rhymbox error: Unable to activate plugin Jamendo and Unable to activate plugin Magnatune Store
Friday, January 9th, 2009I usually get this error when i install Rhythmbox from an xfce environment. It comes up whenever i start it. although the program would still run. i always find it very annoying. however searching the problem reveals that installing libgnomevfs2-extra from synaptic fixes it. so i guess one less thing to worry about.
