Please refer to my earlier comment.
Following your How-to closely I have made some progress, but still can't get connected to the internet. It gives a message - MODEM NOT RESPONDING.
I believe I am close to solving the problem but I need your help. Thanks

Thanks Bigbravar for your important how-to.
Unfortunately I use PUPPY LINUX version 4.00 and have not been able to connect to the internet with my Starcomms -Haier D1200P mobile phone. I use it to browse on a computer using Windows XP but not with Puppy Linux. I went to Starcomms office but they could not help me. I know this is a site for Ubuntu but I need your help to solve this problem. Thanks

Thanks v much Bigbrovar!
When I tried the terminal method I got d following error
"No such file or directory"

I downloaded kppp from the site you indicated on Nairaland, but when Itried instaling I got the following error
"Dependency is not satisfiable:kdelibs4c22a"

I tried downloading gnome-ppp seeing that Ubuntu 8.04 does not use the kppp application. Gnome-ppp installed but it couldn't connect to the internet. It just didn't connect.

I did what U said I should do, the result was:
SB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 03)
00:1d.1USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (.......
)

A page full of numbers and letters. I use MTN sim with the modem. On the Network places of the Window OS the Modem was refered to as Teltonika ModemUSB G10. I will love to know now how I will able to use gnome-kppp to run the internet

Thanks v much for all the assistance.

well i tried googling for the mobi kit .wanted to see if i can get some information about the product but alas i found non

for me to be able to help you i want you to do the following and paste the result here

first i want you to plug in the mobi-kit dongle to your ubuntu computer then run this command in terminal
terminal can be found here
Application/Accessories/Terminal
once you have opened Terminal paste in this command

lsusb

and this one

lspci

then come here and post the result so that i can know what hardware mobi-kit uses

on your own you can also plug the device and run

sudo wvdialconf

if the device is supported it would be configured just like i posted in the above guide .. once that is done you can mail me the result . please dont hesitate to also buzz me online (my yahoo id is bigbrovar ) so that i can give you a close up support .. all will be well .

Hello Ubuntu Master!
This tutorial was quite informative. Tried it. First let me start by saying that I am a completely newbie to Ubuntu or the Linux distributions. Switched to Ubuntu after going to some posts on Nairaland.
I just received the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS pack for desktops. I installed the package as an application on Windows in order to get used to Ubuntu. I can however dual boot into either Ubuntu/Windows at the startup.I have been browsing on Windows with this mobi-Kit dialup modem for some time now. Tried downloading the kppp application on Ubuntu but I received an error sign-I think the downloads was not compatible with the version of Ubuntu I have on.

Please I will need a "hand in hand" guide on how to browse with this modem on Ubuntu. UBUNTU IS STILL VERY STRANGE TO ME. HELP ME.My email address is nkemomede@yahoo.com.
